“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”

-Margaret Mead

In order to ensure that Morningside Heights retains the sense of community that we currently have- a mix of neighbors, beautiful historic architecture, people who have lived here for many years and those of us who flow through- we must all work together.

Here are some ways that you can get involved:

Sign our petition to City Planning

Sign up for a committee

Action Committee – This group will meet between larger community meetings to coordinate and create responses and strategies as needed.

Rezoning our neighborhood – This would mean that we get new zoning that limits height and density. This takes a lot of us working with the City and our elected officials to define what we want and need and then devising strategies to making it a reality. We hope to address the issue of affordable housing through this process.

Outreach – Growing our community coalition by bringing in new neighbors. Maintaining social media and the website, Creation of a Speakers Bureau and producing leaflets and newsletters, etc.

Health and SafetyMonitoring all construction projects as they are occurring. Meeting with the institutions/developers on a regular basis, keeping the community updated regarding issues of concern.

Sign our petitions

  1. City Planning Commission (CPC) asking that they immediately begin a zoning study of Morningside Heights.
  1. To the developers (Jewish Theological Seminary, Union Theological Seminary, and Savanna Real Estate) who are currently building asking them to address our concerns.
